I am getting the following errors when I log into the admin area of the CMS:

They are always the same four with the last 3 repeated. I have checked that the permissions on the cache/magpie_cache folder are 0777, but it seems like the file is not getting created and it can not find it for some reason.

Ok this is something pretty new to me, but the folder permissions are set to 0777, yet the owner of the folder is ‘apache’, as these are folders that have been created by ExpressionEngine. The other folders I have uploaded have been created by my FTP user. Would this have something to do with it?

Sorry for the multiple posts but I seem to be getting somewhere. To allow ExpressionEngine to write to the folder I have to delete the dynamically created folder and then recreate it manually on the FTP. This makes the owner my FTP login rather than “apache”. Is there anyway I can get EE to create the folder automatically without me manually creating the folders? in the installation instructions it just states that you need to set the cache folder to 0777, not the dynamic folders within.

This has also not corrected the issue with the date error on line 1208.

    Thanks

It’s an issue with your PHP setup. When EE creates a folder, it calls the appropriate PHP routines. That said, 777 permissions should mean that the owner of a file/directory does not matter, so there might be something else on your server. You might want to ask your host about it.

Would this also relate to the “Undefined index: date” ?

It could be. What version and build of EE are you on? Are you using any third-party extensions?

Thanks for getting back to me Ingmar, we ar using ExpressionEngine v1.6.7. Guess I am being stupid but I was assuming an error within the cp.home.php, wouldn’t be coming from an extension as its a core file. I have 3rd party extensions installed, I will test though them to see if the error is coming from them. Please let me know if there is anything else I should be trying.

    Thanks

Extensions can affect practically all aspects of EE, so it’s one of the first things we look into. Try to disable them globally (using the big green button in the CP) so you don’t lose their individual settings. That said, my suggestion would be to upgrade to the latest build of 1.6.8. It’s a recommend security update.
