I’m wondering if it’s possible to allow registered members to define what categories they see in a blog by default. For example, if a blog has 30 categories, but a member is only interested in 3 of those categories, would it be possible to allow that member to select those categories as their own default view? Is it possible to add category preferences to the user’s profile? If this is possible, would it also be possible for each member to define their own RSS feed that is only updated with their selected categories.

Thanks in advance for any insight into this. It would be an extremely valuable feature to have.

Is this a stupid question? Am I posting it to the wrong forum?

To my knowledge none of these requests are possible “out of the box” with EE. Custom extensions/modules could make this possible though.

You can use Solspace user module to assign category groups to members. This is AFAIK.
