Remove default statuses?

    Hi all,

I would like to use the status field in a weblog, but i don’t want the default ones (open & closed). I need custom statuses and the default ones to be removed, but it doesn’t seem I have that option?

I could use categories instead, but in my case, status makes more sense. Also, if I use categories, multiple categories can be used, and only one selection per post is what I need here.

Any ideas on how to tweak the status functionality (extensions?) or is there maybe even a better way to go?

    Thanks.

Just add the statuses you need, and use them. “Open” and “Closed” will be available on top of that, and there’s no easy way to remove them.

It doesn’t feel like a solid solution, and I my client is probably going to ask me why those options are there if they shouldn’t be used anyway.

I was thinking of a custom field with just those options I need. But then I realized that I need to fetch entries based on that value with the weblog entries tag, which I cant do with a custom field, right?

Why not just create a brand new status group and associate the weblog with that one?

That was my initial plan, but not even a newly created status group will let me get rid of “open” and “close” as default statuses.
I can’t remove nor edit their names, which I find very odd.

The two primary statuses “Open” and “Closed” are always available, although you don’t have to use them.

Yes, I get that. I just would like to have total control over it, that’s all.
But I guess I have to find another way to do what I’m trying to achieve.

    Thanks for your replies anyway.

Yes, I get that, too, but it’s not an option at this point. Consider making a feature request.

To be honest, I don’t understand why you having those two statuses in there sis so horrible? Perhaps renaming them via the Language Pack would work for you? They’d behave like Open and Closed in all respects, but would display as renamed in the language file.
