A strange thing is happening at my site.  One of our writers just posted a note and set it open to comments with the expiration date ten days away.  Our normal procedure.  But the post is getting the message “Commenting is not available in this weblog entry.”  Typically, that message only appears after the expiration date of if comments haven’t been opened at all.

All other posts on the same blog are open for comments and working properly.  Any idea what could be causing this?  I can post the template code if you’d like.

studes, if only one entry is having this issue, how does it differ from the other entries?

Good question, Sue.  I’ve gone over it with a fine tooth comb and compared it to a post from two days ago on the same blog.  No difference at all that I can see.  And the details of the weblog or template didn’t change either.

All comments on posts other blogs are working.  There is only one post on one blog not working.  I know I’m not giving you anything to work with.  Is there some detail you can think of I’m overlooking?

What about extensions? Are you using any?

What is the value set for allow_comments for that particular entry in the db?

    select title, entry_id, allow_comments from exp_weblog_titles where entry_id = '123'

(but use the real entry_id instead.)

Good thought about the extensions.  I’ve got Akismet Check, Required Category Extension, LG Add Sitename, URL Field Extension, Simplify Edit Table and Filter by Author.  Could the Akismet Check be doing something?  (I need Akismet!).

The database has a ‘y’ in allow_comments for that entry.

Temporarily disable all extensions by clicking the big green disable extensions button. It won’t get rid of your settings.

See if that makes a difference.

If you copy the text of the entry to a brand new entry, does it work then?

Yes.  I deleted the old one and things are good now.  However, I sure would like to know why that happened.

    Thanks, Sue.

I honestly don’t know. Sometimes it’s just easier to generate a new one and move on. But keep an eye out if it happens again.
