Hi guys, apologies if this has been answered before but I cannot find it on the forum.

I am setting up a simple site that is only a landing page but the content will be dynamic with several elements created based on the URL segments.

Once set up I need to import a set of data into the installation’s database.

Currently there are approximately 100,000 records, each has a unique number, name, and three additional fields.

Is a database of 100,000 lines a problem for MySql, and importing into ExpressionEngine?

How do you plan to import, are you writing your own script?
Are you going to use your own tables or is this data specifically to populate EE tables?

I planned to set up the site in EE, populate it with some dummy data and then have a PHP/MySql developer we have (I am not so good on the MySql) import the bulk of the data into the table created by EE.

The site is simple, only a single page, but with 4 separate areas that will have content dynamically generated for each user based on the URL string. My concern was whether there would be a problem in EE doing the site in this way with a database of something like 100,000 lines.

That sounds like a viable approach. The db size as such should not be much of an issue if you have the hardware to back it up. EE can certainly handle it.
