    Hey all,

Strange little problem popping up lately on my site: The CP home page is taking up to 2.5 minutes to load. Just updated to 1.6.8, but the problem persists. The rest of the CP is as snappy as ever, it’s just the CP home, which is really frustrating my users as they try to log in. Any ideas?

    Additional details:

Started some weeks ago, in 1.6.6. I didn’t worry too much about it, because I didn’t hear any complaints.

If I log in, then close the window before it finishes loading (ha ha), I can get in immediately by clicking one of the ‘edit this page’ links I’ve placed in my templates, so they system is definitely recognizing me as admin right away.

Have had MSM installed forever. Didn’t start using it until recently. Problem started BEFORE I began to take advantage of the MSM install.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi, Chris.

Do you have any extensions running? If you do, can you temporarily disable them by clicking the big green button labeled Disable Extensions. Don’t worry, you won’t lose any of your settings if you disable them this way.

Does that speed up the CP loading?

    No, it really doesn’t.

Did you have any extensions loaded?

Tell me more about your hosting. What kind of hosting is it? Who is the host?

How much memory is allocated to PHP?

I did have a few extensions loaded, yes, but disabling didn’t help.

We are the host. I’ve got full control of a quad core xServe running leopard (.5.6) server. PHP memory_limit is 128mB.

Try to disable auto-checking for new versions of EE, as well as the EL news feed.

That was it. The version auto-check. Thanks Ingmar!

Any sort of fix, or should I just forget about that feature?

It’s might be transitory in nature, perhaps a network issue, or it might be not. You can try to enable it again at some point in the future, if the same thing happens, personally I’d just forget about it.
