Site index not displaying changes

At first, I thought I was having the same issues as noted in this thread:
    http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/127701/

Then I followed the steps to make sure I was doing everything it stated, and I was.

    Here is what is happening:
    1. I put a fresh install of EE on Windows IIS (yeah, I know ...), and it seemed to be working for the most part. I was using the default theme. I posted a new weblog entry, and it displayed on the homepage.

    2. I have uninstalled/reinstalled so many times that I decided to try to make a minor change to the site index by adding the word ‘Tada!’ right below the beginning body tag. I saved it, viewed the homepage, and there it was.

    3. For some reason, after I make that first edit, no other edits will display on the homepage of the site through that homepage address (http://gjsd.net/beta/). Only that initial edit to the template will display there.

    4. This was working before, but any additional updates I made to the same template would only display on http://gjsd.net/beta/index.php/site/index.php (notice that I have to include the final index.php for anything to display at all). Now, unfortunately, neither template is showing any updates. (Edited: Ok, this is showing an update I made over an hour ago [displaying one post], not what the template actually should be showing [the default index template with no edits].)

    —-

    Things I have tried:

    1. Forced url query strings from the control panel and by editing the index.php file. Tried tried one, turned it off. Tried the other, turned it off. Tried both together. Tried none. Nothing has changed.

    2. I am not removing index.php from the urls by any means prior to or during this process.

    3. I am using the default set up without any changes to anything other than mentioned above.

    4. I am on a Windows server with all necessary components installed to run EE.

I’m at a loss as to what this error would be called to even try to search for it. I tried a variety of things, but I’m stumped. Yes, I’m new-ish to EE, but this is something I’ve never encountered.

Moderator’s note: Split from this thread.

I am also having a similar issue. Before posting I searched and searched, but didn’t know what this error was called.

I believe it is the same thing? No resolution yet, though.

I did another clean install of EE in another directory.

    1. If you go to the homepage, you will see the EE default index (http://gjsd.net/alpha/)

    2. I made an edit of “Here is a test block of content.” right above the first blog entry. It will not appear on the homepage, but it will appear if you go directly here http://gjsd.net/alpha/index.php?/site/

    2. I made another edit to add another line that reads “And another.” that will not appear on either of the previous URLs, but will appear here: http://gjsd.net/alpha/index.php?/site/index.php

    3. Here’s the kicker - I had an epiphany and updated the template one final time with another paragraph that reads “And another another.” That will only show up when you access it at this URL: http://gjsd.net/alpha/index.php?/site/index.php/index.php I’m pretty sure if I continue making updates, I will have to continue adding “/index.php” to this URL string to view them ...

Any thoughts? Perhaps some database quirkiness?

Edited to add: I did this with force query strings on and off - through EE and by editing index.php.

What version and build of EE are you using? What is your default template group? Try posing another entry. Are you using caching of any sort?

I used the latest version of Core 1.6.8 (downloaded today), and even tried my personal licensed version 1.6.8.

Default template group is “site” - the standard that the system is set up with.

    No caching is enabled.

This is for a site using EE Core, then?

I had all caching disabled, but I went in and toggled the options again to see if that would work. What did work? Toggling “Enable SQL Query Caching” to Yes, then back to No.

I believe all systems are a-go. Thanks for reminding me to check on the caching. Even though I had them all set to “No”, toggling them did something to fix the issue!
