    Hey everyone,

I have a client who’s sick of uploading images one-by-one and doesn’t want him and his content contributors to use FTP to batch upload photos because it will be too confusing. Instead, he wants a Facebook-like upload where you click “Upload” and can select multiple images (he says between 20 and 300!) and then these will upload one by one via HTTP.

Is there anything out there that is similar to this at all? (Modules, Plugins etc) I understand that 300 files at once really calls for FTP but I’m sure up to 20 images at a time would be acceptable and much preferred to one by one. Would be nice if you could only fill out category, name information once and have it applied to all images automatically.

We are willing to pay for this functionality.

    Thanks,
    Ludwig

We currently use one-weblog-entry-per-photo but are happy to move to the Photo Gallery or even a completely different EE module.

How about using FieldFrame extension? You can add as many photos you want, Add captions and upload all at once.

fieldframe is the best right now, but it’s still not quite as good as the java plugin that facebook uses - you get to see the thumbnails and directory tree at the same time.

Hmmm there’s no Shift-click to select and upload all option with FF is there? Using nGen it’s still one at a time uploading.

Also, nGen gives me a mem_limit issue ><

Hello, could anyone provide details on setting up FieldFrame specifically to work with multiple photo uploads to the photo gallery module?

I took at look at FieldFrame but the amount of info over there is overwhelming to me.

Since there are a few folks interested in using it for this one application (uploading multiple images at one time to the Photo Gallery Module) I wonder - has anyone used it for this and is willing to share the process/steps?

You can use FieldFrame to upload the images. On a site I am working on I have installed FieldFrame and nGen File Upload fieldtype. Then you will need to go into the CP—> Admin—> Utilites—> Fieldtypes Manager and enable FF Matrix and nGen File upload. (you will need to configure your image upload location too for nGen’s file to work properly. Now create a custom field in the Field group that your weblog is associated with. Give it a field type of FF Matrix and you will see a new area created. In this you will be able to create a column where you can give it a fieldtype of nGen File upload and you can create as many additional columns as you might need for what ever information that you want to associate with this file.

On my site I have one set up with the following columns:

File Upload | Name | Author | Short Description | Photo Date | Location | Authors URL | Similar Authors

Justin - I’m not sure these instructions will work for my question - we would like to set up multiple photo uploads to work in the Photo Gallery Module adminstrative area directly, not in the weblog it is associated with.

Sorry I misread what you were looking at doing. If you are using Playa this would be easy enough to do. That is the only relationship fieldtype that I know of that is available in FieldFrame

Justin- that’s Ok, glad you were offering help.

Everyone- I’ve had a lead on batch uploading photos in the Photo Gallery Module using TinyBrowser.  The method is not developed yet but I’ve started a new topic for anyone interested in following this:
