I am trying to fine tune a workflow for an organization I’m doing work for, and we’re running into a problem with a relationship field. In one of our weblogs, we’re linking entries to a separate list of families via a custom relationship field type. For the Families weblog, the last name is the Title, and the parents’ names are a separate field (the reason for this is complicated, but it is necessary). Unfortunately, several of the families have the same last name. Because of this, there’s no way to tell which family you’re choosing in the relationship field because the drop down only displays the Title field of the related weblog.

My question is this: is there any way – existing or even simply conceivable – to customize the values in a relationship field dropdown on the Publish page? In other words, can I have the dropdown display the related entry’s title concatenated with the parents’ names field?

This is a pretty big problem for our volunteers, so I’d really appreciate any help. Thanks!
