I’m trying to install EE for a friend who has the same Domain Hosting company. I can’t remember what path I used when installing it on my domain.

I get the following error from the EE instalation wizard.

“ERROR: The following Errors were encountered
Unable to connect to your database server.
    Unable to select the database”

Currently I have a functioning personal license EE install on my domain.

Is there somewhere in my functioning install that I could verify what PATH I entered when I first installed EE? That way I could compare our domains and figure out the correct path. The domain hosts support pages don’t contain the answer.

    ‘localhost’ and ‘home’

    Thank you in advance,
    STeph

    Stepher,

It might be best if you opened a ticket with your host. Even though you are on the same host this hostname could be different.

Your database details are normally sent in your first hosting account email, so maybe tracking that down will help also.

Your own database hostname can be found in system/config

    Thank you John Donovan.

I plugged away a little more regarding this issue. It turns out that my username and password (for MySQL access) was at fault.

Firstly, my username and password each contained 9 characters, which turns out to be too many. My host suggests 6-7 for MySQL DBs. Secondly, my password contained an illegal character. I guess I taking the error message too literally, I should have known that just like coding websites, sometimes the error message doesn’t quite match the actual problem, but it’s usually related in some way.

So once I corrected that by recreating the user with a new password everything went smoothly.

After that, the ‘localhost’ setting in the ExpressionEngine installation wizard worked as expected.

    Thanks!
