Hi, I’m looking for the best approach to charge members for each entry they create. I was thinking when a member clicks the “publish” tab, it redirects them to simple commerce. After payment, the system checks for payment and creates a new entry for them. Each entry has a hard expiration time limit set by the superadmin. A member would only have the ablility to edit and delete their own entries. Closest example I can think of is a classifieds system like craigslist.

I’m pretty sure this needs custom scripting. Would this be best done as an extension, module, or php etc??...

Can anyone see if this is a violation of the commercial terms of service? I’m not providing hosted blogs. It’s more like selling pages of a magazine.

Does any of the experts here see any other potential snags with my specific needs?

    thanks in advance!

Hi, khouse - welcome to the forums!

You are right that this would need custom scripting.  You can certainly set up this type of classifieds site with ExpressionEngine, that is within the license as long as you are not giving folks their own mini-sites.

    Thanks Lisa!

Honestly, I don’t know where to begin with the custom scripting. Should I just look for a developer? Can you foresee how complicated it would be for the commerce module to be hooked into the publish function? I know some basic skills but this seems to be out of my range upon first research.

Does letting a member have a unique photo gallery on each entry page qualify it as a “mini-site”?

I obviously can’t add custom scripting to the enginehosted version, correct?

Hi, khouse - giving users their own, autonomous section can be a breach of the license.  If you’re uncertain, please email sales with more details about about your projects goals and we can go into detail in private.

As far how hard it would be, this isn’t something i’ve looked at so I am not able to say.  You could post on the Job board or get some quotes from folks on the Pro Net for this work.

There isn’t a hosted version of ExpressionEngine (other than the 30 day demo) - EngineHosting provides web hosting, but you still can put your own add-ons, though I highly recommend testing on a local environment first.

    Hi Lisa and Khouse,

We will be releasing a new Addon for foxee in the next day or two that will let the sitebuilder sell weblog entries with settings for the number of entries and time restrictions.

I will post in the forums once its ready.

I’m excited to hear this.  An inability to create classifieds was one of the reasons I moved on from EE to another CMS some years back; this feature/addon would be GREAT.  I’ve checked your website the last few days and haven’t seen it yet, but I’ll definitely keep looking for it!  :cheese:

    Hi, Michael:

I checked out your site - any chance you’ll have more documentation up, or better yet, a demo, for this addon?  I appreciate that you included expiration dates and posting limits, did you guys include pay-for-features, like pay-for-featured, pay-to-bold, etc., or does that get accomplished through the SAEF?

Edit:  Or should we move this discussion to the addons forum?
    Thanks.

Bump. - Michael, do you guys have an install of the Classifieds addon yet that we could see?  Given that it has Foxee as a prerequisite, it’s a $200+/- product, so I know I’d kind of like to see it in action before I plan on using it.

    Thanks.
