Has anyone attempted to create a members area that will allow members to log in and then they would be directed to an area just for them?

I am in the developmental stages of designing a website for a personal trainer. He is going to do unique workouts for each client and having a member area just for them would be ideal.

I was hoping someone might point me in the right direction. I know this is probably a loaded question, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

The usual way would be to make these users authors, make them the authors of “their” articles and only show those to them. Make sense?
