This question may be related to a resolved thread.

Help! I’ve uploaded files from EETemplates.com and now I can’t login to my CP! I am using a new install of EE, deleted the EE database so I could use the new template’s and now I get this error:
    MySQL ERROR:

    Error Number: 1146

    Description: Table ‘unite106_uwcmEE.exp_sites’ doesn’t exist

Query: SELECT es.* FROM exp_sites AS es WHERE es.site_id = ‘1’

Is reinstalling the whole thing together(EE and the template) an option or have I made a fatal error my deleting the EE database? Yikes!

Welcome to the forums, Nancy. There is usually no reason to delete the database, certainly not to install a new theme. Do you have any content worth saving in your database? Otherwise a new install might indeed be the simplest option.

No, there was nothing in the database yet.

Sorry for popping in on this one but it would probably be best to contact Marcus on this one as I think (may be wrong on this) that some of his templates require actual database imports to be made in order for them to work.

Did you have to do that? Import a database SQL file I mean?

I could be wrong on that so apologise ahead of time if I am but I seem to remember that some of them do indeed require that to work.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

No, there was nothing in the database yet.

Just start over, then: delete your files, upload a new set as well as the new theme and install EE as you always would.

I’m all for the simpler solution…

To answer Mark, there was an SQL file that I FTPed with the rest of the EEtemplate.com files and it had this note: “The sql file can only be used on new installations of EE. It will try and overwrite data contained in the database and we would really not suggest using it on a site that already contains data. It is not for that purpose. That is why we have included the Manual Install files.”

This was my rationalle for deleting the EE database, since there was no data yet anyway. Now that I can’t login to the CP, I can’t follow the Manual Install instructions either…

So, if I do a reinstall by deleting everything from my host, will I be able to upload and do an install just like I did originally? The Personal License allows this?

Ah as I thought there is a SQL file bundled with it.

You said above that you FTPd it to your site? You would actually need to somehow (either using PHPMyAdmin or another database administration tool) get the contents of that file placed into your database as that is the actual data for the site. Just FTPing it won’t do it I’m afraid :-(

You will definitely be fine if you need to delete all the files and try again though. As long as you aren’t installing any one license on more than one domain then you can install and delete as many times as you like 😊 although hopefully you won’t need to do it too many times before you get this all working 😉

If you haven’t ever imported a SQL file before then it might be best just to start again and follow the manual instructions on this one which I guess are more about setting up the template groups and templates first and then copying in the required code?

I’m sure that Marcus will hopefully pop in here soon to lend a hand on this too though. He’s a great guy so I’m sure he’ll be more than willing to help out.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

I don’t see why not. Once you have done so you might follow the instructions pertaining to your theme.

    The Personal License allows this?

The Personal License allows one (personal) public installation of EE. This definitely includes re-installing, moving sites etc.

Nancy just to let you know I’ve alerted Marcus to this thread. I’m sure he’ll pop in and lend a hand wherever he can. As said before he’s an excellent guy always ready to help. 😊

It sounds like the db doesn’t have a exp_sites table, since I’ll bet the template is for a much older version of EE.

Actually, it has no tables…Mark was right, I did not put the SQL file contents into the databse, just FTPed the file and was hoping for the same magic to happen as it did when I install EE originally!
