I’m trying to find a way to order weblog entries based on when an event is going to happen, and not when it is posted…

I have created a custom field entry for date, but I am not sure what kind of special formatting is necessary to sort the actual entries by this field.

is there a way to do this?

here is the events page I’m working with:

    http://www.roanetwork.org/index.php/site/tp_calendar

    thanks in advance for looking.

    cheers,

    Robert:

What about showing future entries & ordering by entry date.  You’d need to set the “entry date” of the entry to be the actual date the event is taking place.

    Hello Greg,

    thanks for the reply!
this sounds promising. A couple questions:

can the entry date be modified in the when you submitting the event? (making a post) is the entry date actually the automatic time date stamp?

Yep, click on that “date” tab on the publish page.  (http://expressionengine.com/docs/cp/publish/index.html#tab_date)

Then set show_future_entries in yoru weblog entries tag.

    Thank Greg!

    That seems to work.

Is it possible, however, to create an custom field, like event_date, and have that field be linked to the current date?

I’m trying to keep things real simple for my users, and many will not be proficient with computers, or even English and if I can keep to to just 5-6 fields to fill out that would be best.

I don’t believe you need this anymore. It is as simple as its gonna get for a user now, as there is a date tab which is easy to find and it allows you to calender pick a date for the event.

IMO adding another custom field would be adding bulk to the page
