email links in IE, always a problem?

We’ve developed a number of sites in ee and have had this problem on all sites, in IE email links entered in a field through the admin show as this: (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and also open 3 email windows when clicked. This happens in both sites where we use TinyMCE and not. When an email link is hard-coded into a template, the problem is solved, but this of course is not a solution.

So we always end up turning the “Admin -> Section Administration -> Section Management -> Edit Section Preferences -> Automatically turn URLs and email addresses into links?” preference off in all sections. Then we lose the javascript email encryption, which is a nice feature. I have searched and it seems like the answer is always turn off that preference. So it seems pointless to ever have this feature or ever have it enabled, correct? Or am I doing something wrong? Seems like everyone would be having this same problem.

    Thanks.

What version and build are you on? Do you’ve got a link so we can see this for ourselves?

    ExpressionEngine 1.6.7 - Build:  20090122

I just turned the auto url/email pref back to yes, so it shows the error.

I can confirm that IE shows the error message. It’s working fine on all other browsers in my arsenal, though, so I’d probably call it a user agent issue. So, yes, turning this off is probably your best option right now.

I am having the same issue.  Only in IE do I get the javascript must be enabled to show email address error. (even though JS is enabled)

All other browsers are displaying the email address properly.

    I am running 1.6.8

SOLVED: in my entry the email as actually coded as mailto:, I removed the mail link and let EE build the link and works fine now.

Glad you got this figured out, Eastwood Design.

As this issue is quite old, I’m going to mark this as resolved.  CSBox - if you still need assistance with this, please start a related thread.

    Thanks!
