Personally, I’m more on the lookout for a good SPAM filter 😛
How many of these are we going to get today?

Use linux and fear not the Microsoft woes lol, AVG is the better of the freely available ones, McAfee is not too bad, but I wouldn’t trust anything with symantec or norton in the title 😛

Do you trust the Symantec removal tool? Its used for completely uninstalling the demoware that comes with a new PC (the uninstaller can’t cope apparently)

I use panda cloud antivirus on my new laptop and it seems to work well.
The problem with the latest versions of AVG is that by default it scans your system every day and a link checker browser plugin is installed, those two things eat up recourses.
I also got tired of the bad connection to download the updated virus definition database.

Avast anti-virus deserves some love too.

@Dam1an I don’t think the removal tool is coded by Symantec, but once upon a time they were the leading edge, when it was still Norton, I miss all those Norton Utilities, but now it’s just a false sense of security to me.

I’m not sure if Symantec make their own removal tool, but I know in the case of McAfee, they make their own and have it on their support website 😊

I was going to try panda cloud, but it does not work on vista 64-bit. so im now going to try AVG, I have used them bore and like them. I’m fed up with Norton, which came with the pc.

AVG or Avast when i have to use a PC or when im setting up a Friend/Family Members PC. For spam protection i try to get everyone to move over to gmail. the google apps for domains are awesome.

AVG on windows.
clam av on linux (fileserver for windows)
mac - not bothered to sort something as of yet
Comodo for everything else - software firewall etc, I leave the main firewall duties to pfsense which is incredible piece of kit.
It’s getting to a stage where you need a quadruple core processor just to run these softwares.
Time for a new protocol for mail is my personal view, maybe soon we will all correspond via xmpp or something, Google Wave perhaps.
But the spammers will find a way

Mac is not virus proof, even on linux desktops a firewall is recommended. Today there was an article on digg about hardening linux before going online. And linux is considered to be the safest OS.

Ofcourse I know that, but the amount of virusses is countless times smaller than the amount of Windows based virusses.
