Even though is a two-year-old discussion, I am now encountering the problem mentioned above. I cannot add IP addresses to “Banned IP Address” under “User Banning.” I have 20 addresses already listed, but whenever I try to add another, the new address does not show up after saving the data. I am able to successfully add e-mail addresses under “Banned Email Address,” but that’s not the ideal solution to stop certain spammers.

    I am running EE 1.6.7, Build:  20090320.

    Any ideas?

Are you using some url rewriting? Also, you, too, could try upgrading to the very latest build—would help us to rule out file corruption as well.

Updating to the latest build did not solve the issue.

We do use URL rewriting to strip “index.php” from URLs.

sv, can you test without your .htaccess in play?

No, deleting .htaccess did not solve the issue.

Are you able to use Download ExpressionEngine.com Blacklist?

Apparently, yes. If I click on the download link, I get a message that the blacklist has been updated.

So if you add a new item manually, does it still save?

For me, I had this problem (that I couldn’t update the banned member IP list), and fixed it, by looking in config.php for a preference that was hard-coded.  Deleting that preference (banned_ip) solved the problem.

By the way, this shouldn’t be confused with the whitelist/blacklist IP list.
