I have a number of entries that have a common topic (ie tag), but not extensive enough to create an entire Category for. Is there a way to display only those tagged entries the way they do in Categories (one after the other)?

Also, an alternative, is there a way to display the entries, the same way they’re displayed one after the other in Categories, but for a certain date range?

Check out Solspace’s “Tag” module, found here: http://www.solspace.com.
You should be able to list the tagged entries together, like with the categories.

For the date range thing, I would look at the Archive Month tag http://expressionengine.com/docs/modules/weblog/archive_month_links.html, or use a custom query using the Query module http://expressionengine.com/docs/modules/query/index.html
