I have a contact form in my site. It seems to take about 15 seconds to get the acknowledgement page after submitting. Is this normal? Any hints how I can diagnose the problem?. Nothing untoward seems to be being logged

It seems a bit long, I agree. Is sending mail via the “Communicate” tab quicker? It simply might be your mail server taking a long time. Also, what version and build of EE are you on?

    Hello Ingmar,

Thanks for the hint about the communicate tab.

The problem is that the email is being sent to two addresses, my test account at gmail and a personal domain owned by the client. Using communicate it takes 3 seconds to send to gmail, 15 seconds or longer to send to both or just to the other domain. I’m guessing some kind of reverse lookup failure.

    Case closed, thank you.

It definitely sounds like a lookup issue or something like that. You might want to ask your host or postmaster about it. Please don’t hesitate to post again as needed.

This question may be related to a resolved thread.

I was investigating the above bug and noticed that I had used a dummy email address when setting up the system. When using this I had no problems sending to gmail but one recipient (demon.co.uk, a major ISP) timed out for up to a minute before finally accepting the message - so one wonders why they bother checking at all.

So in CP/admin/system preferences/email configuration make sure you have a real email address and (just in case I missed something) that your administrator also has a real email address.

    Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for letting us know the cause of this. I’ll merge this thread with the original one.
