Trying to set up a forum for a new MSM site and the forum url just shows a blank white page. Site address is http://www.girlvivalist.com/site/forum - where ‘site’ is the index.php replacement, and ‘forum’ is both the short name and the triggering word. Also tried an alias at http://www.girlvivalist.com/site/girlvivalistforum/ although I’m not sure why or when an alias would be needed. Is this an issues with .htaccess? Do I need to create a template group or templates for the forum? Or maybe an MSM issue? Thanks!!

    draymond,

There is no need to create templates for the forum, although make sure you have uploaded the theme folder for the forum though.

What do you have in your htaccess?

How much php memory do you have?

CP ›  Admin ›  Utilities ›  PHP Info and look for memory_limit

The forum now appears after a complete uninstall and reinstall. Not sure what I did wrong the first time. 😉

I’m a little confused about the nomenclature or hierarchy. It seems odd to create categories and then put forums under that. I’d like to create a Forum, and have categories under that forum, each of which would have topics or threads. Am I just misunderstanding the set-up instructions? And having created a ‘category’ as the first step of the set-up, I can no longer find where to edit that category in Forum Management.

Also, I made a copy of the ‘shares’ theme, and then set the forum to that theme, but no images are showing up. The images are being called as…
    http://www.mywebsite.com/site?ACT=46&board_id=1&theme=blue”
    http://www.mywebsite.com/themes/forum_themes/girlvivalist/images/bt_rss.gif
etc., but there are no images under girlvivalist.com because that is a sub-directory off the main ftp root, i.e., a secondary site in MSM. So the images it wants are actually above the girlvivalist webroot in the main system folder…http://www.myprimarywebsite.com/themes/forum_themes/girlvivalist/images/bt_rss.gif

    Thanks for your help!

    draymond,

Glad the forums are now working for you.

Yes that is how the hierarchy of the EE forum module works, individual forums live under Categories. You can edit each of your category settings under the Forum Management tab.
The edit link is to the right of the category name in the dark grey bars.

So the images it wants are actually above the girlvivalist webroot in the main system

Create a directory called ‘themes’ in the sub directory or main directory (whichever does not have a theme folder and copy the ‘forum_themes’ folder in there.
