I have created a new forum name. I have also created a new member group that has access to that forum. However I don’t know how to add members to the member group manually. So, I only want some of my members to have access to this particular forum.

Any reason you can’t just create a member group, give that group permissions to these forums, and place those members in that group?  That’s the intended use of the forums module.

Hi Derek,

The members are already in their groups (set up by someone else). However I have created a new group and given that group permissions BUT I can’t see where I add members to that group.

In Member Administration there is member group administration but it only looks someone can be a member of one group. Where can I add them to be a member of more than one group?

Currently, users can’t be members of more than one group.

To reassign a member

Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  View Members

Click on a member, then under Member Preferences you can change the Member Group Assignment

Member Account ›  Member Administration

The issue is there are a group of members who are a special committee and they want to communicate via the forum in a hidden forum. One that only they have access to.

Are you saying that I can’t give them the opportunity to do this via the forum? They can’t be members of more than one forum?

Hi, Brownwen. Users can only be members of a single group inside of ExpressionEngine. However, you can set up forums to allow access to more than one group at a time.

For instance, I’m a member of the TSS group, and I have access to just about every part of this forum. However, you are a member of the Members group, and have access to most of the areas of this forum. But not all.
