    Hi All,
We are running php 5.2.4+lenny and after upgrading the system to 1.6.7 (we thought that ee was causing problems, we are still getting errors on our pages that pull most of our blog entries.

Call to undefined method Typography::format_characters() in /.../mod.weblog.php on line 4383

Do you know what this error means and how to fix?

If no, how do I roll back to an earlier version of ee?

Are you using the forum module as well? My guess would be you didn’t upgrade that.

Not on the pages that concern the error.
    Does that matter?

It could also be that your files were corrupted. I’d grab a fresh copy of EE from the site, and re-ftp everything to your server.

could a binary upload transfer type be an issue?

Definitely. EE is a set of PHP scripts, and as such should be transfered as “TEXT”. Most FTP clients get it right using “AUTO” these days.

    Kristie,

Could I ask you to start a new thread please with a rundown of your own issue as the solution may differ to that here.

I ran into this problem this morning and indeed, in the (system)/core/core.typography.php file, the format_character() function did not exist.  We were running version 1.6.4 (without the forum module).  However, all versions after 1.6.4 seem to have the format_character() function in the core.typography.php file.  In short, upgrading to the current version of EE (so newer modules aren’t calling a function that doesn’t exist) should solve the issue. Thanks for everyone else’s help—definitely of assistance in pinpointing the problem!
