I am in the process of learrning EE and am finding it very fascinating.

I am not sure but was wondering if it is possible to have a live ‘NEWS FEED’ on my ee site? Something close to the WALL in Facebook.

    Any responses are highly accepted.

What would the “News Feed” contain?

Will contain feeds from what othe members are doing, their status and the changes they make on their profiles. Its a bit like a social place for youth group with disabilities built on EE. Main reason being EE has a good security built in.

The terminology seems odd. You may be able to do the same thing just using EE’s standard tags to display information about each user, most recent posts, description, etc. Is this more of a dynamic update of member information? If so, EE’s tags probably will do the job.

The output would be something like. User X changed their profile status to ” THINKING OF MOM ALWAYS”, and it would be live in that its updated on all their friends feeds and others can comment on the changes too.

No implied insults are needed. I’m aware of what Facebook is. I even know what the Wall is. Building a Wall in EE is what you want, right?

    I got nothing.

You’d have to be able to tie one member to many, and have that member’s “wall” read in the latest info from each related member. This can’t be done by EE without custom code.

You would need custom code that can associate members as friends of a particular user, most likely involving a custom DB table. Then it’s just a matter of pulling the friends’ member IDs, and then pulling the latest entries from users with those member IDs.

I won’t go into the code itself. You can hire an EE developer for that or take a crack at it yourself.

I’ve been looking for something like this as well. Essentially, it would be like a “social module” for EE; and I agree with Chris - it will most likely require custom coding.

If you’re doing a social site you might check out what Elgg can offer (both in itself and maybe with EE integration although no one has done the latter yet afaik).
