custom error page on simple search

is there any way of using a proper template for search errors (ie searches of less than 3 chars) in the same way as we use one for no results (ie no_result_page=“noresults”)?

I don’t like having to use the special user message template, because I cannot use embeds or in fact any EE variables (unless I’m missing something)

    Cheers

Same issue here! Is there any solution to exmonkey’s question?

    Thanks!

I would like to know if there is a solution to this too. I need to replace the error pages for submitting a blank search and for searching more than once in 15 seconds. Also, can the search time limit be changed?

Also looking for exactly the same error page customization?

@stdrovia - You can set the minimum time between searches by going to Admin > Members and Groups > Member Groups. I guess it’s tucked away there because it’s a setting per user group. I would never have looked there, myself.

I, too, would like to use a custom template when no results are found for a keyword search. Anyone?

    You mean something like no_result_page=?

Ha ha. You beat me to it. I just found this parameter by digging around a little more. However, I’m still getting the default message, just with a different URL. Any ideas?

Andrew, if this isn’t working I’m going to ask you to post some details over in Tech Support.  Version, extensions, and your code would be a great start to get you some help =)

Thanks, Lisa, I found the following thread that I think will solve my problem: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/27728/

The trick is not to include the search results tag in the no results template. Makes sense in a way, but means you can’t use the same template for both cases. C’est la vie.

Can’t say I’ve ever been much of a fan of multi-use templates; I prefer having multiple, lean templates.  Easier to code and work with, and with embeds, not harder to maintain.

In any case…. I ramble.  If that doesn’t resolve it, please post in tech support. =)

I’m not a “fan” of multi-use templates, either. I am a fan of showing my users /path/search/ for all search results pages, whether or not there are any matches. I’d love to know if that is possible. From what I’ve seen it is not.

Put it all in a search template group? =)
