    Hello,

I’m brand new to expression engine and am just learning my way around. We had a web developer to build a site prototype for us and now we’re at the point of putting in some real data to see if this works for us. Using the EE admin interface to edit and publish hundreds of pages is not something we’re interested in.

The webhost is Dreamhost with php5, mysql5, and EE 1.6.6. I’ve set up an ODBC connection through a putty ssh tunnel to mysql and then linked the tables into MS Accss. Poking through the tables in Access I see where I can readily bulk edit the fields we’re interested in updating. My question is: is this safe? what do I need to be aware of?

thank you for your time and illumination.

It’s not exactly the recommended method, if I may say so. If you don’t want to use the control panel, perhaps the stand alone entry form, or even the moblog module, might be viable alternatives? That said, the latter, in particular, should give you an idea of what’s required to post new entries to EE.

Can you point me to a page where I can find more info on the Stand Alone Entry Form? I’m not finding anything.

WRT to moblog: can this be used for editing existing entries or is it just for new ones?

You might also have a look at Migrate to EE as there are great options there for importing lots of data.

Sure: http://expressionengine.com/docs/modules/weblog/entry_form.html The moblog (like the SAEF, actually) is meant as a means of initially posting an article, yes.
