Hey All,

I’ve recently created a new template group to take the place of a static page that used the same URL (let’s call it “schools”). For some reason, the template group is throwing 404s for all its templates (including index), but only when named “schools”. If I change one character of the name, or rename it entirely, it works fine. I’m sure there’s an easy solution to this, but it’s driving me nuts. Yes, the old static page has been deleted. Yes, I’ve cleared my caches. No, “schools” does not appear in my .htaccess file. Any suggestions?

Update to the problem. I’ve removed index.php from my URLs. Adding it back in by hand takes me to the proper page. I’d really appreciate any help someone might offer.

What version and build of EE are you on? Is there an entry by that name? Or a template in some other template group? Does it work when you don’t remove index.php from your URLs?

EE is 1.6.6. No entries or other templates by that name. There was a weblog also named “schools”, but I’ve changed the name of the weblog and still no luck. Currently it works when I ADD index.php, but not otherwise. I messed around with the “force URL query strings” option in output and debugging preferences and gotten it working. I see by older posts that this might have something to do with htaccess and the rewrite module, but I’m at a loss as to why it would work absolutely fine with every other template group name I choose and not with “schools.”

I also saw in those older posts that there might be no official support for my problem. Still, if anyone’s able to offer any ‘unofficial’ support, I’d be eternally grateful.

I would recommend re-reading the wiki post on removing index.php from your URL’s.  Experiment with the different methods.  My guess is that you are using the “include” method, and you didn’t add the new template group to the rewrite rule.

That being said, I’m going to move this over to “how to.”

As a matter of fact, I’m using “exclude”, which is what makes this one really bothersome. It’s my preferred method (I’ve read the document you reference multiple times), so I’d really like to keep it up. In case it matters, this server is OS X 10.5.6, Apache2, MySQL 5 and PHP 5.
