Is your path.php file intact, including the proper path to your system folder?  If so, please let us know the exact verbiage of the error you are receiving.

Hi Derek, as it turns out the copy of path.php which I uploaded from the new EE folder I downloaded to upgrade to was empty. so I guess I’ve done somthing wrong, so I’ll just reupload all my old files which i’ve backed up on my machine and try again,  thanks 😊

Let me know if you need any help, michael, or to let us know how things turned out.  Just a note that the path.php file is not one that you need to replace or update when performing build updates nor version upgrades of ExpressionEngine.

Thanks everyone, I got it working.  My problem was that when I first started doing this I was reading from the wrong guide. then when I realised that i tried to fix things which just made things worse lol. but Ive restored the back up and updated it successfully :-D thanks for your help
