    Hey all

I just got an account over at buysellads, to see if anyone would actually be interested in some ads on my site. This is a small experiment, if nothing happens, I’ll just get rid of it.

But I was wondering: do any of you have ads on their sites? From where, why did you put them there? What do you think about putting ads on your portfolio etc…

The main reason I did it was because, if I could sell some ads, I might be able to afford some VPS hosting in the future, that’d be handy. If not, it’ll at least pay off my current, shared, hosting plan.

The only site I have ads on right now is http://www.ourstrangeworld.net (which runs on EE by the way).  I have a Slicehost VPS account (the 512 Slice) and the non-obtrusive ad revenue (using Google Adsense) more than pays for the hosting… although I give all of the ad revenue to the site’s main contributor (who so happens to be my dad - it’s a cool way to keep in touch since he’s in TX and I’m in AZ).

I can’t really be of any help regarding any other ad service since I’ve only used adsense.

AdSense is decent, but if you are really looking for good quality ads, I would hang on a month or so.

My company FourthTimeLucky are planning on launching a service similar to The Deck, and development is going well.

Jamie, let me know when you go live with that 😉

Personally I hate ads, but clients often want them. I put adsense on an old site I used to work on, and it was generating almost £1000 per month.

Jamie - I hope you’re aware of the irony of using comic sans to write the line “redefining creativity” 😉

Unless they changed it - there is no way that that is comic sans.  My guess is Trebuchet MS.

I was talking about the sig. but I was wrong anyway, I’m fairly sure it’s ‘digital strip’

I give up! and sorry for implying that you’d ever use comic sans!

 I was trying to find something that looked even remotely like comic sans before posting - looked right passed the signature.  Sorry ‘bout that.

Ads should be based off of the site. If you have a content driven site, ads are going to be a must. However, if you are selling product or services, it may look tacky. then again, I like to offer people the chance to advertise on my sites! 😊
