I don’t mean to be a pest (“WHEN?” questions tend to be such by default)... I’m just curious as I’m starting template development for a fairly extensive site. I understand that the 2.0 version will change things quite a bit, so I’d like to know what is the current gut-feeling for the potential release date of 2.0? An answer will not be held against anyone (and, in fact, I’ll rather wait for a while longer than have a half-baked version in my hands), but if it seems at the moment that the new version might be out around the end of the year, for example, then I might choose to keep the template development for 1.x to a minimum in order to avoid double work as I will want to upgrade as soon as 2.x becomes available.

Thanks for any update you might be able to offer at this time! 😊

One thing I have come to figure out in the world of dev is that if I were to hold out on the release plans of anything then I would get nothing done.

Just start chugging away now and then deal with the next version when it arrives.  It won’t change so much that what you are doing now will be a waste of time.  You may find easier ways to do certain things though.  Hoewever, if you are wating for an excuse to procrastinate, by all means, wait for the next version.  😉

BTW, they won’t tell you when it’s going to ship.  Right now the word is “sometime in Fall.”

You’re right, of course. We need this site ready by January 1, and so even if the 2.x would come out “around the end of the year”, it would be too late for this project.

I am sorry if my answer is predictable, too, but: please build your site with what you’ve got right now. If EE 1.6.5 fits the bill right now, by all means go for it. That said, from what we know so far your templates probably won’t have to change much if at all, so upgrading should be easy.

EE 1.6.5 will do the job. On the other hand, I know that I *will* want to upgrade to 2.x when it becomes available. It’s good to know I won’t have to write the templates from scratch, though 😊.
