Maybe I just missed the boat on this one, but I feel that the image upload feature for entries is a bit clumsy. I’ve been having the toughest time trying to explain to clients how to use it.

Can you execute limitations on how or where images can be uploaded? Even limit how they can place it in their entry? The file type (URL only, embedded in entry or pop-up link) Resize, where to, etc… Is there any way to limit this for a client? Even after many sessions of explanation, most still are super confused.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

Solspace has a File Upload module which simplifies things a bit.

Is it the number of steps that causes your clients the problem? Have you ever written them a documentation (cheat sheet style) to help them after you’ve built them their sites?

It just depends on the client.  I haven’t had a problem, but that’s working with a high level client.  There isn’t a great way I know to simplify things, though I know some folks like the ‘File’ extension.  And I haven’t played with the File upload module mentioned above, but it might make another good option.  I won’t get into the WYSIWYG extensions, though they do have image upload capabilities.  It’s the only thing I tend to like about them.

I’d echo Robin’s thoughts on the WYSWYG editors. In the dozens of EE sites I’ve worked on I’ve installed a WYSWYG editor exactly once and it created more problems than it solved.

Very cranky little extensions, in my experience. Very.

Interesting discussion there. Since I see no Technical Support Question to be addressed, though, I’ll simply move it over to Howto 😊
