I’ve been thinking about add-ons that are essential (or nearly so) for new EE installs.  I’m talking about things that just make life easier for the client or end user.

I’m adding these to a wiki I just created on my home computer for code snippets and other useful things that I will end up using over and over.

    so far I have

    LG Live Look
    Required Category

    for development I like
    TruncHTHML

I know there are several more that I’ve seen over the years that would be useful, but I didnt’ keep track of them.

Yeah, you got Required Category on there.

Don’t forget LG Add Sitename. REQUIRED when you have several EE installs on WAMP.

If I only could find the link to Publish Page Improvements. Wonderful little extension that can do a lot more than one thinks from the beginning.

That was quite slow actually, 23 minutes 😉

Actually I knew where that one was located off the top of my head. Memory is a wonderful thing isn’t it? 😊

    Best wishes,

By “knowing where that one was” you must either have known the ID or just the general location of it, am I right? Memory sure is wonderful, as long as one doesn’t lose it.

I actually knew the whole link of by heart. Normally I just know exactly where to look but with that one I just knew it. As you say memory sure is a wonderful thing as long as…

… now what was that last bit again? 😉

    Best wishes,

    Mark

In addition to those already mentioned, every one of my installs defaults with:

LG Better Meta - absolute must have, especially with new site map functionality. Commercial version = worth weight in gold.

EZ edit menu - I can’t understand why this wasn’t included with EE by default.

Category checkboxes - much easier for clients to allocate categories

Just about to install another so thought I’d add it here - the excellent Selected items.

There are some good ideas there. I have never seen the Required Category Extension before that will be very handy!

    I always install

    File Manager
    Freeform
    File
    and Category Checkboxes

Thanks for the other add-on ideas I’m going to have a play with them today, see if there are any I might adopt as essential add-ons!
