Hi, I’m having a similar problem.  I have had the SMTP protocal set up on one of my installations for quite some time now; up until this past week, everything was working fine.  I now receive the following error (any help would be appreciated; I also checked the other thread that you mentioned above):

    Greetings stephlivsey:

Do you know if your hosting company has made any changes to your hosting environment lately?  Also, what version/build of EE are you running?  YOu can find both numbers in the footer of your control panel.

    Hi Greg,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

No; there have been no updates to my hosting; I just confirmed with the host company.

Also, I just upgraded to the latest build and version for EE and I am still receiving the errors above.

    Thanks.

    okay.

Can you double check your smtp settings, username/password/etc and make sure they are correct?  Can you double check with your host to see why your emails might be getting refused.

    Thanks Greg,

Well, I’m not sure what’s happening; but I went ahead and pointed the MX record of my domain to an email hosting provider that allows mass emails (this is a HOA website I’m running) and then I switched from the SMTP method to PHP mail.  Everything appears to be working fine with PHP mail, but still no success with SMTP mail.  Hosting provider says nothing changed and all usernames/passwords are correct.

    I guess this will work.
    Thanks,
    Stephanie

Stephanie, it looks like you have a workaround to the problem. Please don’t hesitate to post again if needed.
