Hello everyone I might say first that I am really new to EE, I am actually a web designer, who has never dealt with any CMS application (until now), as most of my time I ve been creating stuff in flash, or a mix of flash and XHTML..jvscript…, as you can see in the following website:

                  http://www.ozomate.com

This is the project I am currently developing, and as you can see, it is mostly finished (... I know…it is missing some information…etc, but the general structure, CSS…HTML..flash..is quite done)

Now, I went reading about almost every CMS application available…(as I think pretty much everyone did, before meeting EE). And my final decision it is to go with EE. In my personal case I think that what I really find COOL in ee, is the fact of not being…stuck with an ugly template…but to be able to adapt the cms to your design.

So what is the point of this post if I already choose to work with EE???

...well basically some small doubts that might sound pretty simple.

    1) As you can see in that site I have a main navigation made in flash that the client does like. So I will like to keep it(I ask myself if it will be really complicate so set up the links…or not),...or if I will be better to build a similar one using Jquery for example.

2)In that page I am using an Iframe `content`to display pages information. As far as I ve been working along with mike boyink s training book for EE, he is not using iframes, but embedded content to display each page, which I didn`t knew and I think is way better.
But I will like to know if you think it is really not a good way to work with iframes in EE.

3)kind of the first question, if you go to commercial products, again I have flash navigation… that I will not like to loose, so I don k know the flexibility to add flash content using ee.

4)finally I will like to add multilingual content, and if possible some e-commerce features for some products. I will like to know if EE does work with multilingual modules..e commerce modules, or if I should get third parties software to achieve this.

I you are still reading this, I thank you for your time, and it ill be cool to have some points of view from you guys!!

    have a good one

    Manu,
The short answer to #1-3 is if it works on the web it will work in EE.

In EE you build your web pages just like you normally would and then incorporate any EE features you need into your design (rather than having to incorporate your pages into features as some CMS require you to do). There aren’t any restrictions for navigation, flash, iframes, or anything.

I can’t offer help on #4 (it’s outside my experience) but I’m sure others can.

    Hi,

Thanks for your answer, that leaves me more confident about EE.

One of the main doubts I have now, is how am I going to rebuild (ozomate.com) into EE.
I am talking more specifically about not using an Iframe (as that page presently does).

because I want pages to resize with content (and as far as I know iframes are static, with a fixed given size).  Also I think there should be any other way that renders embedded pages faster than an Iframe.

Is anybody familiar with Uframe?? I just find out it exists, and I am wondering if someone has already used it. I am open to other solutions though, your answers are gladly appreciated 😊

Ok, I finally got it, after finishing reading Michael boyink’s pdf book, I think, I have a really good base, and I am happy not to work with iframes anymore!!! but with embedded content…that really changes my way of building websites from now on!

I will surely have more technical questions further, but at least I understand the Expression Engine architecture, and it rocks! ... can’t wait to learn more!

I have a question about an EE solution for having a swf file that calls another section of the page to appear. In my current case, the swf file calls for an iframe to change when the swf hits a que point. Do I use an iframe in EE for this action or do I use templates—-in a swf file…I don’t even think I can do that.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hello Daniel,

Let me understand you better, are you asking if you can use a .swf link to call an html document within expression engine?

if so, the answer is yes, like in http://www.ozomate.com a website I did, I had a .swf flash menu, to call html pages, I didn’t use iframes thought, what I did is to embed the .swf flash menu on all the pages. I really recommend you Michael boyink book, it really helped me to understand how everything worked together along with the exercises, take a look here:

    Thank you, Manu.

I have been going through Michael’s book the past few weeks. What I’m unsure of how to do is this: I have a flash movie that has a que point (an action that does something, like call a web page and point to either a _blank, _self, etc. OR an iframe.

In my case, I wanted to have an iFrame (or an EE alternative) that will open a new page in a specific area on the web page (think transparent iframe, no borders, no scrolling).

The video will explain something and then in the “window” or “iframe”, pull up a 300x300 px html page, to show the example. This happens in timing with the que point in the flash.

So my question is, this isn’t a flash menu responding to a click, this is a que point in a video which will point a “Page-within-a-page” using EE (like an iframe). How does EE create an iframe alternative so that Flash understands where to put it the URL (e.g. iframe or EE alternative window).

    Thanks.
