I have an online seminar that I want to offer to my clients using applications provided by Influxis, a Flash Media Server host. My budget allows for their ‘Voltage’ plan:

    Voltage
    Ideal for small-scale applications
The Voltage plan moves beyond the experimentation realm and is designed for creation of small Flash Media Interactive Server applications for up to 20 simultaneous users.
    20 Simultaneous Connections
    10 mbps burstable streaming bandwidth
(Up to 512 kbps per connection)
    500 MB Disk Space
    15 GB transfer / month

Does anyone have any tips or insights regarding what I should consider and expect—‘usability’- wise—from this approach to distance-learning?

    Thanks for your feedback.

I’ve looked at their plans, while streaming server the ultimate for video, especially if one wants no access to the files as they don’t download to the users computer, am a little surprised at the low bandwidth.
Depends on video size and views…15GB/month I would think is much too low?
    1 - 100MB video viewed 1 time a day - 3GB/month.

Here is an easy way to calculate bandwidth usage if you were to stream at a full 512kbps and 20 users:

512kbps x 20 users x 60 seconds in a minute x 60 minutes in an hour = 36864000 kilobits (4.39gb). Divide 36864000 by 8388608 to get gigabytes, or use this tool to convert to gigabytes: http://www.matisse.net/bitcalc/?input_amount=147456000&input_units=kilobits&notation=legacy.

Influxis also provides Bandwidth Usage Reports so that you can monitor all of your traffic and usage so you can determine when you need to upgrade or downgrade.
