I have a client/friend who still uses pMachine. It has always functioned well and the effort involved in updating to EE and converting the existing DB is simply too daunting for someone who is not particularly computer literate or familiar with setting up and configuring a website with dynamic content.

A problem has arisen with the membership pages which I have been unable to resolve - I have much more experience with EE myself.

I would be very grateful if any helpful soul in the EllisLab/ExpressionEngine community has any advice to offer.

    The problem:

From inside the pMachine cpanel I click on the “View all Members” link and the list of current members is displayed correctly.

BUT, when I click on an individual member to view/edit their profile I simply get the following error message:

Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string in /home/mona/public_html/pMachine/monacp1/cp/members.cp.php on line 131

As things stand it is impossible to activate new membership applications - though it is possible to register a new member manually. The error message appears but the new member is registered all the same.

I simply don’t know where to turn to help this person. I have tried searching the Forum but all the old pMachine posts are gone.

    Can anyone help?

    many thanks

    Hi, Chris,

Unfortunately we’re not going to be able to help here.  There are the pmachinepro.com forums; but they’re not particularly activate.  You might try someone from the Pro Network with pMachine experience to get some help with this.

Of course, if you do upgrade to ExpressionEngine, then we can help out with issues like this. =)

OK. I didn’t know the pMachine Pro forums were still available. I’ll try there.

As I said. For some people, like my client/friend, upgrading is far too complex an operation. They would have to pay someone to do it.

They’ve learnt to use a system, they’ve become familiar with it and it works fine - why should they change? That was the appeal of pMachine after all - it was extremely easy to use.

Anyway, I’ll pass on the message.

    regards

    chris

I’ve tried posting in the pMachinepro.com forum but it doesn’t work.

Everytime you try and submit a post it asks you to login again. Very frustrating.

(I tried in 2 different browsers and had cookies enabled - I can post here so it doesn’t seem to be a browser problem).

    Hi Chris,

Unfortunately I have never used pMachine, I came straight in to using ExpressionEngine. I am just wondering though as to why it has suddenly stopped working for you. Did the server you are on perhaps recently have a PHP version upgrade?

Just wondering if something like that might be the problem. Unfortunately I’m not even sure of the server requirements needed to run pMachine so I may be way off bat with that one but it may be something simple like that?

Don’t know if that helps at all though?

I would say though that if it was all working fine before (you were able to view / edit profiles without a problem) and now all of a sudden it has stopped working then usually this will either point to something that has changed with your installed files or more likely something on the server side. Perhaps a quick query to your host to see if anything has changed over the period of when it did work and now when it doesn’t.

Hope you get this sorted soon.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Thanks for the support Mark, I appreciate it.

I’ve done as you suggested and written to the Hosting provider to check for server changes.

    all the best
