after i log in through /member/login, the browser redirect me to a weird url with this string right in the middle of the url: S=a18b99c6c77cb85f71c2e4e1db072905c2b4992f

For example: If my previous login page was “locations” it will redirect me to http://stjoseph.ejaeworks.com/S=a18b99c6c77cb85f71c2e4e1db072905c2b4992f/locations/

also all the links in any page will have that string.

I wonder if it has anything with removing index.php from EE. However for every other site I did login is working fine.

    any helps are much appreciated

This is a so-called session id, expected and standard behavior and nor reason to worry. If you don’t like it, turn off session ids and change to “cookies only” authentication.

After changing both Control Panel Session Type and User Session Type to ‘Cookies Only’ my URL still looks like this: http://www.mysite.ca/admin/index.php?S=0

Is there a way to get rid of the ?S=0 from the URL completely? This isn’t a huge deal but would be nice to have a cleaner URL.

    Thanks in advance.

You can access the control panel at http://example.com/system/ but once you do, there will be strings added to the URL. This is expected behavior.

Ingmar’s correct, but I must confess that I’m confused -  why are you concerned about the URL structure of the control panel?

Thanks for the quick response guys. I forgot to mention that I did rename my system folder to admin, hence why my URL looks different.

Like I said, this isn’t a big deal at all because I’m the only one who will ever see the URL anyways. It’s just more of a personal preference. I’m completely ok with having ?S=0 at the end.

    Thanks again, EE rocks!

Okay, just making sure I wasn’t missing anything!  Unlike the front end, the control panel uses GET in order to route requests, carry some variables to make linking easier (like an edit link to an entry that you might put on the front of your site, visible to super admins only), etc.
