Howdy,

Had a question about the Ellis Lab cartoon scientist guy found at http://ellislab.com/ - who created him? The reason I’m asking is I’ve found him elsewhere. I found it in a portfolio, a screenshot for a completely different website (which apparently isn’t up yet). I’m assuming it’s the property of Ellis Labs…but I wanted to make sure before I got all accusatory.

An illustrator called Cliff Persaud I believe

Cliff did the Super Hero illustrations for us but not the “EllisLab cartoon” guy. I can’t remember the artist’s name but that illustration is one we purchased the right to use and Jesse modified the illustration for us (made it look more like Rick). But the illustration is not original to us so its possible someone else has it in use somehow.

I’ve seen it elsewhere as well so I assumed it was from a stock image site.

Interestingly enough, the site I saw it at (http://www.jameslaicreative.com/) has since replaced it in his screenshot (it was for the stockswings site, now there’s a big head in its place).

Perhaps someone else mentioned it to the designer. I sure didn’t.
