    Hi

I am looking for the web application framework just like codeigniter in java, where I don’t need to do a lot xml configuration, easy to start (as fast as CI), small footprints, a little depedency on other libraries ... fast enough to write just hello world.

    is there any frameworks ?
i am looking for it seriously ... and not found yet ... please tell me which one (I don’t mind to use Hibernate for the ORM).

    Hi dare,

I have done research on JSF (using Netbeans 5.5) and Struts. JSF was good but still need a lot effort to learn about it. I have done a project (simple and small one) using JSF (netbeans 5.5 visual web pack) and it tooks about more than 1 weeks (2 or 3 weeks, just for debuging and reading the weird error lol), while i confident i can do the same thing in Codeigniter in less than 1 week.

I have just found Grails (http://www.grails.org) and it seems pretty straightfoward like codeigniter and rails. I wish CI was implemented in java .. 😊
What do you think about this Grails .. is it mature and stable ? or should I use jruby with rails (ror) ? 😊

I love to use CI for my project but sometimes the clients asking me to use java (they are php phobia .. while i am php mania lol) 😊

Yeah Adwin, You have to give what exactly client asks 😜 .

To tell you frankly i haven’t tried Grails and Jruby with Rails cause i am stick to PHP, learning Java just for fun.

But if you’re looking for a more mature FrameWork, Struts or

Tapestry would be a stylistic choice.

And thanks for introducing Grails, i am interested to try that one.

    Regards
    Dare

Struts is nothing like CI - it’s not simple and it slows me down. Custom tags, java beans, xml config files… makes me feel woozy.

yes that’s right ... I hate to touch XML files everytime I created new controller, model, etc ... that’s crazy lol ...

i will try the grails as well .. it closer to CI and I don’t need to touch any xml files 😉

Jumping this forward a couple of years,  😉

Any other recommendations? I’ve looked at Wicket (didn’t like it), Struts 2 (complex), and was told to avoid Spring. So far I haven’t found anything similar to CI and am fast approaching the point where I’d consider using PHP-Java Bridge for the bulk of it.

I actually haven’t heard of it. Can you describe it a bit?

I’ve built my own Java Web Framework, with CodeIgniter in mind.
I really impressed by CI. And can not stop to think : “Why Java Web Framework can not be as easy and as useful as CI ?”.
So here is the result : http://code.google.com/p/recite18th/

The framework is running, and able to simplify my usually hard to maintain plain JSP + Servlet (and Dojo). If you like it, pardon me that runnable Tutorial / Starter project is not yet ready.

Expect it to be happened soon anyway 😊

Offcourse you can modify the code, commit the changes and lets develop it! 😊
