Just wondered if anyone had been messing with Magento yet:

    http://www.magentocommerce.com/

I have been messing around with it for most of the day and im a bit frustrated, theres a huge amount going on, and im a bit baffled for example it uses 193 database tables, thats alot in my opinion.

In terms of design, its starting to click now, but its still a pain to go in and out of 10 subfolders to find files…

I am definitely interested in it.  I like that it is built on the Zend Framework.  There is for sure a lot going on there though.  At the same time, there is little documentation.  Getting a good feel for it and developing for it will take a pretty good effort but I think it could be worth it.  There appears to already be a quite large community for it and there are likely a bunch of people looking for developers for it.  It looks like a decent opportunity for developers to get some work.

Magento made a critical mistake in using MYSQL for this design.  Way too slow.

@ John Filler - Yea totally agree, the amount of features in it give it a great starting base, but the real money will be in templating and additional modules, i suppose its like Drupal in that sense, they just need to get some good documentation….

@ usmc - Don’t agree with you there, MySQL is more than capable of handling their structure, what database would you have suggested? bearing in mind its an open source project.

They have a nice web app there. When I was trying out the beta’s (several months ago) it was a pain in the butt to get everything going. Personally I find it a bit to slow for my liking.

I’ve been watching it since pre-release, and it looks fantastic. I think when duty calls I’ll use it.

EDIT: That doesn’t mean I’ll pi55 on it btw.
