Alan Houser from CreativeXpert interviewed Michael Boyink on ExpressionEngine and Train-ee as part of his Creative Component Re-design series, which chronicles his move to ExpressionEngine. Alan has been going through Mike’s Train-ee materials. The interview is a great overview of how ExpressionEngine can help small business owners and covers the fundamentals of getting started with EE, something that Mike is an expert at.

Funny thing is, I watched the preview and it put me right off. Surely a paid for screencast should be better quality.

That’s too bad you feel that way. The information in the screencasts is worth every cent.

I understand that, but the amount of information that is freely available means I’d expect a bit more if I was to pay for something like this.

    Hi Leslie,

Quick question, assuming you’re the person making the EE screencasts on expressionengine.com. What software do you use for that? You’re making them on a mac, it appears, and the output format is quicktime, if I’m not mistaken.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jamie,

Michael Boyink makes the Train-ee.com screencasts. He’s on Windows and I’m not sure what he uses for that. On the Mac I’ve used a few solutions, each good in its own right. My current favorite is Screenflow from Vara Software. I’ve also used iShowU (bare bones, but works well), and Snapz Pro X (the most features). One of those will likely hit the sweet spot for you.

That’s very helpful. Does any of the tools on your list output to flv? Thanks!

Gilead’s looking for Mac solutions I think—but just for the sake of being complete I use Camtasia for Windows.  It does output to .FLV directly.

I don’t think any of the apps I mentioned output directly to .flv. For quick conversion work I use VisualHub which does .flv just fine.
