    Hello,

How do you think is best to categorise CI Base? I’d love to use tags.

E.g. for pc_user it would be library, user authentication.
SimplyPost it would be application, forum.

I was thinking of having a drop down of application, helpers, libraries, etc and then admins tag the description of the code. The only trouble is most of the time it’s hard to attach a type of code to them. Some have a mix of helpers and libraries.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I like the idea of having fixed categories, and then allow project owners to add tags to narrow down the type of contribution.

Along with that you should almost certainly have some sort of ajax autocomplete for the tag boxes.  That way people are more likely to use existing tags rather than making another one that is off by a letter.  It keeps the result set small, giving tags more weight and relevance.  Having ‘user auth’, ‘auth’, and ‘authentication’ makes it hard to find what you’re looking for.

A rule that I submit code by is that the category is defined by the largest component.  So if I have a helper and library, I categorize it as a library.
