    Hello there

We are managing a site for a client and they would like to have index.php hidden from the site urls.

Now I have looked through the wiki here to see how this can be done, but have already run into a few conundrums…I am not a developer and so am having great difficulty following the instructions.

The site is hosted by EE.

Firstly: Does EE hosting use IIS or Apache?

Secondly: How do I find out if the mod_rewrite module is enabled or active?

Thirdly: I am using a mac and creating a .htaccess file is proving tricky

I have read through the Wiki instructions and even sought clarity in the forums where I have seen many posts on this topic but, like I say, I am not a developer, so it has barely made any sense.

    Cheers

I suppose you are referring to EngineHosting, which is a sister company, but still separated from ExpressionEngine. They are certainly not using IIS, which is only available in Windows, as far as I know.

You can take a look at the PHPInfo page in your Utilities; it is certainly enabled at EH, though.

Why would that be? Many people here uses Macs, and I have never heard of any problems here. In any case, you can alwys create a file named “htaccess.txt”, or whatever, then upload it to your server and finally rename it there to .htaccess, via your FTP client.

    Hi Ingmar

    Thanks for your reply.

I actually had a crack at the Wiki instructions and it all worked perfectly. I did create a text file and rename it on the server, so all is good.

    Cheers
