First off, I’d like to say hello, it’s nice to meet everyone. I’ve been lurking around for a while now, but I finally decided to go ahead and dive into this community. I started tinkering with HTML and CSS last summer, and now I’m hooked (I’m still green, but I’ve recently decided to switch my major from graphic design to web design).
I happened to discover EE about a month ago, and at first my curiosity was piqued by what I saw, but I really didn’t GET what I was seeing, so I ended up just passing through. Then 2 weeks ago, I was perusing some very nice looking websites (to gather inspiration) and came across some that were powered by EE. So I gave it a second, more discerning look. This time I checked out all of the EE site, where I absorbed the quick-start tutorial, videos, and user guide. I decided to download EE Core, and began to play around with it. I understood the concept, but I was horrible at putting what I had picked up into practice. I then came across Michael Boyink’s website, and his fantastic tutorial.
I don’t know how else to say this without sounding like a gushing fanboy, but I am totally blown away by EE. After creating my first website using static HTML pages, I can really appreciate what it is that EE does. I’m actually excited to learn how to use it! I get it now, but I only understand the concept and basics. I’ve already decided to climb this learning curve, so I can implement it into my website’s redesign (and other future projects). Of course, right now I can’t even get EE to serve up a static page - But I’ll learn.
Once I get it all worked out, I’ll show you all my first EE site. I’m sure that I’ll be hanging around quite a bit from now on, so believe me - it’s my pleasure. I’m buying the license for a personal install next week. I’m sold.
Mike, thanks for such an awesome tutorial! I’ll be absorbing all of the info that you have presented. Please tell your kids that I’m sorry that it was for people like me that they missed out on 50+ hours of parenting!
Seriously though, I can’t thank you enough for such a great resource!
