I start this thread so that everybody can post here the tools that helps you in your everyday work, it can be online or offline software (not IDE, there is already a thread for this)

So I start myself with an awesome thing I have discovered today: http://www.assembla.com
It’s a collaborative tool. The free version is really enough for most of us. Really incredible tool, I have never saw yet a so well done thing.

    Assembla rocks!

I know you can get their source (it’s called Breakout, and is written in Ruby). You can try downloading it and running your own version. If you do, let me know how it goes, because I’ve been thinking about it for a while.

My favourite is the ticketing system that they have. Also, you can close tickets with your subversion commits (by saing “fix#123” in your commit comment).

Wow, assembla looks really cool.  I wish someone can make a project management tool in CI.  More so i hope it will be open source!

If you don’t mind hosting it yourself, Project Pier is an opensource Basecamp-similar tool.

After my boss decided Basecamp was too expensive for its services, I went hunting for an opensource alternative, and ProjectPier is what I decided on.

It’s not all AJAX-blingified, but it lets you do milestones, task lists, upload files, write messages, etc.

However it is NOT integrated with a version-control system.

I’m actually using Project Pier myself.  I hope it could be upgraded or replaced with something else, I find the interface very clunky (4 clicks to do a task, each click is a 5 second load).

I’m just hoping for a better alternative I guess.
