I have a CSV file full of user data that I’m trying to import into a clean install of Expression Engine.

When I go Admin > Utilities > Import Utilities > Member Import Utility > Convert delimited text to XML, setting my member file location to ../import.csv (the import file being at my site’s root), the delimiter to comma, and my enclosure to ” as those three things accurately describe my CSV file.  When I hit submit, I get this message back “You must have at least 3 fields: username, screen_name, and email address”

To try and address the error, I’ve renamed the appropriate column headings to match the exact language of the error.  I’ve deleted every other column in the file. I’ve removed all the headings entirely. I’ve exported the data as tab-delimited instead of CSV, changing my import settings as appropriate. They all return that error.

    For what it’s worth, I’m on EE 1.6.3 20080319.

Thanks in advance for any help.

For what it’s worth, I haven’t been able to find useful instructions on how to structure my data for import or troubleshoot the problem in the wiki, support forums, or documentation.

Hi, Adam, Here is the XML format you need, which is linked from the Member Import Utility docs.  Does that give you the information you needed?

Apparently I have to have the enclosure quotes around every cell or no cells - it doesn’t understand the way my spreadsheet app exported only around cells that needed the enclosure.

Nothing that a quick search & replace in the editor of your choice couldn’t correct, is it?

All fixed up then, Adam?  Just want to make sure before I resolve this thread. =)

My users have successfully moved to their new home!

Thanks for the prompt responses, by the way.
