Either I am having the server play a really bad April fool joke on me…or a serious error going on.

The website http://www.ehs.sfu.ca is displaying the message:

Database Error: Unable to connect to your database. Your database appears to be turned off or the database connection settings in your config file are not correct. Please contact your hosting provider if the problem persists.

Checking the MySQL connection (different server) through mysqldumper shows the message:

    Error in Query:

    Database connection error:
    MySQL says:

Host ‘xxxx.sfu.ca’ is blocked because of many connection errors. Unblock with ‘mysqladmin flush-hosts’

I let the admin know of the problem of course. The reason I am writing here is that one of the EE sites I am tracking (found on this forum) shows the same message:
    http://bas.fmweb.com/index.php

I hope this is not an EE issue (may be a phpMyAdmin or MySQLdumper issue.)

hi, asozzi, do you know if you’re using persistent or non persistent connections?

    Hi Lisa,

Seems the technical staff have let me connect to the DB again…
I am using non persistent connections and caching.

What gave me a little stop was the fact that there is at least one other website with exactly the same symptoms running on EE. I would have otherwise assumed it was an phpMyAdmin exploit or something…
Still trying to get some logs on who (EE or not) was generating the connection errors.

That should be ok.  We’re definitely going to need a bit more information before proceeding, since we aren’t sure what to troubleshoot yet. =)
