Hey guys - just wanted to let everyone know I am here in Texas in preperation for my convoy tour to Kuwait/Iraq.

Training is going alright - I’ve already proven to the other guys (all trucks drivers and such) that a computer nerd can hold his own. I drove a semi around town yesterday with no problems - my first time driving anything larger than a Nissan Maxima.

Other than that it’s just a lot of running around, getting yelled at, and learning what to do when an IED goes off or when you start taking small arms fire.

I’ll be sure to check back in before I leave out of here headed down-range. Once I get to Kuwait I should be around more often - I’ll have wireless in my room.

I am an Airman - a Communications troop at that - unfortunately, the Army can’t do their job (convoys) for manning reasons or something. So the Air Force has been doing it for 3 years now - thus, the reason I am here.

Things are going good so far - we’re getting more free time as the training progresses, so I have continued work on my book during my spare time. Things will progress much more quickly once I arrive in Kuwait.

What AFSC?  I used to be 2E151 (SatCom) 😊  Good luck out there.  I only went to Masirah, and a few stops along the way, so I just enjoyed the beach and sun and satellite TV 😉

raymondm, “Airman” is the generic term for people in the Air Force (though it’s also a specific rank, and a group of ranks, just to confuse you).  It’s like Soldier for the Army; just because everyone is a “Soldier” in the Army doesn’t mean that there are no people behind desks.

Semi, you say?  I remember driving around the 5-tons and seeing how impossible it was to get those beasts stuck.  I had the same experience though; I think I had a first generation MR2 then (maybe second gen…), so I went from that little thing to dealing with trucks that have engines bigger than my car, lol.  They definitely handle differently…  And the whole pedal to the floor making a lot of noise but not really going anywhere just wasn’t doing it for me, haha.

Good luck out there, Sgt. Wales 😊
