I’m not really a money person, but I had a client ask me what my time is worth b/c he’s never had a programmer work as effectively as I have.  As much as a compliment that is, it’s mostly due to CI’s ability to quickly develop applications.  Anyways, he suggested I up my rates b/c my local competitor is programming using old methods and takes forever and also charges 85/hr.  I hate telling clients what my price per hour is b/c developing in CI is actually a good experience so I’m looking for ideas on what other people are charging for their services so I have a good conscience.

I started at $60/hr a year ago. Now that I have become extremely more effective within the CI, as well as the demand for me (personally) has increased, my rates have increased a little bit (but not much). I currently charge $85/hr. with no plans to increase that until at least after my book is released.

@Michael, so you are *even* writing a book?
You’re incredible: if i’m not wrong, you got a job (other than developer), a family, a blog, a CI forum to follow 😉 and you also got time for writing a book?
your day must be 36 hrs long… I admire you!

@mickeyhell: sorry for being O.T., I’m not of great help for you, since I have a full time job and I charge my boss on a monthly base, so my rates are not comparable to freelancers…

I tend to charge a daily rate rather than per hour. It varies depending on the work but £160 a day is the usual. So $40 an hour.

@Micheal So it is true that becoming a author makes you have ideas above your station 😉
