    Hello,

Please forgive me if these questions have been answered previously, my search did not reveal exactly what I was looking for.

    1 - Multi-lingual site:
Is it possible to have a where EE can control the language of not only the menus and default profile language, but also of the content. For example, if we build a store and wish to have our content in english, french, spanish and german, so long as we supply the translated content, could EE be setup to easily maintain the content across all the languages?

2 - One main site with multiple domain feeders.
Assuming we are a wholesaler, and we have a store front with products, FAQ and knowledge base setup in EE. We now wish to allow our retail stores to have their own store front using our products but on their own subdomain URL. So if we are wholesaler.com, some of our stores might be bigstore.wholesaler.com, littlestore.wholesaler.com, anotherstore.wholesaler.com etc. We would want their clients to be able to post questions on their subdomain, which would have their store template on the site, but all using our database. So that from wholesaler.com, all the stores questions would be visible listed by store.

Purchasing individual licenses would not be a problem for each store, and I am thinking that we could somehow do this with the multi-site version of EE.

I am not looking for the exact technical explanation, but if someone has an overview of how this would be solved in EE. Also, would Ellis Labs consider this blog hosting, which is not allowed in their license. We are not meaning to utilize EE as such.

Any assistance or a direction to start looking in would be great. Thank you.

Yes! You can create custom fields for each language.

When you say create custom fields for each language, do you mean: In a field group you create an english title, a french title, german title, an english body, a french body, a german body etc?

Or is there a sneaky way to do it with a selector field? So you can assign a language to a post? This seems to make more sense as adding a new language later on would be fairly easy, and the database would remain fairly optimized. I am just not sure how to retrieve the correct post for the language required after that in the case of a static page.

    Yes.

You can use a selector field and reverse relationship in this case. But it is more complicated then   explicit fields per language. If I knew that there has to be a translation I’d probably use explicit fields if the number of languages is not more than 2-3. Depends on your requirements.

Thank you Peter for baring with me. My client might end up with many languages as they are just now starting to expand outside of the North America. The actual language count right now is four, with more on the horizon.

Reverse relationship. Interesting, thank you again, it appears that might do the trick. Just need to learn a bit more about it.
