Just a short note that Prof. Dr. Joseph Weizenbaum, whom I had the honor to know and learn from personally, died in Berlin at the age of 85 yesterday.
He was a great computer scientist and philosopher, Professor at the MIT - and many may know him as the developer of the computer program ELIZA. But Joseph Weizenbaum was not only a brilliant AI expert, but (especially after this “retirement”) a profound critic of the modern fully computerized society.
Weizenbaum eventually became a “preacher”, strictly demanding responsibility of each individual scientist, condemning war and arguing that mankind have become insane. (Il Mare Film)
May we never forget his thoughts and warnings - and never forget him.
